Martel brings a dynamic and intersectional perspective into the field of social service through academic study\, over a decade of in-the-field experience\, and shares the narrative of systems-involved youth with lived experience. As a transitional aged-youth who experienced homelessness battled with his own mental health and navigated severe trauma to now an openly gay father pursuing his Doctorate focused on equity and liberation for Black communities. Martel Okonji will share his journey and highlight the need to cultivate transformative wellness within our communities through a multitude of frameworks including a healing-centered engagement.
