SUMMARY:SPY's First Annual Youth Summit: Season of Change
DESCRIPTION:Safe Place for Youth invites you to participate in our first annual Youth Summit\, "A Season of Change: Cultivating Transformative Wellness\," which focuses on improving systems of emotional\, mental\, and physical health\, ensuring they're more equitable\, accessible\, and effective for everyone. It's important to recognize that not all young people have equal access to health and wellness resources\, which limits their opportunities to tap into their full potential. \n\n \n\nWe are coming together to collaborate and learn how we as a community can re-evaluate the systems already in place and generate more accessible pathways to healing and positive wellbeing. We want to help youth build the confidence to navigate health and wellness systems\, bring awareness to current inequities in wellness\, and foster solutions to support the holistic wellbeing of systems-involved youth.\n\n\n\nThe event will be hosted virtually on HopIn and will be on October 23rd from 10am - 2pm PST.\n\n \n\n	\n \n Get your tickets here!\n \n	\n\n \n\nSessions at the Summit include:\n\n\n	Lived Experience vs. Academic Experience: How to approach conversations about culture and society with youth experiencing or at-risk of homelessness.\n	What's In Your Toolbox: A discussion with transitional aged youth (18-24) about the hard skills and soft skills needed to help them reach their employment goals and the holistic practices available and needed to address both.\n	Cultural Humility and Harm Reduction: What is the concept of cultural humility\, why is it relevant to harm reduction\, and why is it a needed practice in our day-to-day work/life?\n	Creating a Safe/Brave Place Art Workshop: A session with a partner organization\, A Window Between Worlds (AWBW)\, that believes creative expression is a human right. Attendees will be invited to participate in a trauma-informed\, culturally responsive\, hands-on art workshop utilizing the AWBW philosophy and framework.\n\n \n\nKeynote Speaker: Martel Okonji\, Director of Innovations at Safe Place for Youth\n\n\n\nMartel brings a dynamic and intersectional perspective into the field of social service through academic study\, over a decade of in-the-field experience\, and shares the narrative of systems-involved youth with lived experience. As a transitional aged-youth who experienced homelessness battled with his own mental health and navigated severe trauma to now an openly gay father pursuing his Doctorate focused on equity and liberation for Black communities. Martel Okonji will share his journey and highlight the need to cultivate transformative wellness within our communities through a multitude of frameworks including a healing-centered engagement.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor any questions or more information please contact Helen.
