About this event
Mike Schaadt, esteemed Marine Biologist and Director Emeritus of the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, kicks off the Venice Oceanarium's new lecture series with a lively and informative discussion, Help the Ocean Help Us. Mike is known for his infectious enthusiasm for science, his boundless passion for teaching and his enduring commitment to the students who will become tomorrow’s champions for marine science.
Join Mike in conversation as he explores how with some understanding and resolve, we can Help the Ocean Help Us. People use the ocean for many things; recreation, food, and travel. Some human activity results in threats to the health of the ocean like pollution, climate change, marine debris, overfishing and habitat destruction. Progress has been made to reduce these threats, yet public and political will is needed to continue the efforts towards a sustainable ocean ecosystem which people can continue to enjoy.
The Venice Oceanarium - A Museum Without Walls is a small, grassroots nonprofit. Their programs integrate both arts and sciences to further understanding and appreciation of our environment. It's their belief that this encourages kids (of all ages) to become stewards of our oceans.
This lecture-series fundraiser is an intimate gathering limited to 25 people in an the lovely garden of Venice Oceanarium Founder, Tim Rudnick and his wife Robin Lithgow. Tim's 'Garage-arium' of marine life will be open for touring. The address of their home on Venice will be provided upon paid registration. Light refreshments will be available.
