The four Dell Avenue bridges in this project are more than 115 years old, built in and around 1907. These bridges are designed for vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Initially three of these bridges were programmed for rehabilitation in 2001.
In 2010, the BOE’s Structural Engineering Division issued a memo stating three of the 4 bridges received a sufficiency rating of less than 50. To comply with the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) 34 policy, which states “…no bridge shall have a rating less than “D” (sufficiency rating less than 50)” it was recommended that the three bridges be programmed for rehabilitation.
The fourth bridge is in similar condition with a sufficiency rating of 50.9. Therefore, it is necessary to rehabilitate these four bridges for the safety of all users.
Additionally, they are the main path of transportation to the community they serve.
