On Thursday, January 28th, Boys & Girls Clubs of Venice held our annual Youth of the Year Competition virtually. Four of the Club's talented young leaders, Daniel, Yesenia, Anthony and Alonna, competed for the Youth of the Year title. The judges had their work cut out for them, deciding between four incredible candidates, but in the end, Alonna came out victorious.

Alonna, an energetic and passionate Venice High senior who has been a member of the Club for three years, will move on to the next round and represent BGCV at the Los Angeles County Alliance Boys & Girls virtual Youth of the Year Awards.

As secretary of her school's Black Student Union and an advocate of the community, Alonna has proven that she is a natural-born leader. She is described by her AP Literature teacher as intelligent, enthusiastic, compassionate, and always willing to lend a hand to her classmates when needed.

Alonna dreams of exploring the ocean as Marine Biologist after obtaining her degree, and she hopes that one day she can help find a solution to water pollution.

Congratulations Alonna!
