Dear Members, Archivists, and Friends,

Happy Holidays to all and hope this finds you and your family well.  This has been a tough and extraordinary year for all of us.  Despite it all, we remain upbeat and focused as we continue our efforts to preserve the history of Marina del Rey.

Although Marina del Rey Historical Society (MdRHS)Gallery has been temporarily closed since March, our major project of digitizing The Dinghy (the marina’s first local newspaper) continues.  With assistance from LA as Subject, (LAAS) the umbrella archivist association sponsored by the University of Southern California (USC), and an archivist team from California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), approximately 4 years have been scanned and uploaded to our website.  With instructions from the archivist on digital scanning we can now continue what they started for us.  Your continued support has brought us a long way towards preserving the history of Marina del Rey through gathering documents, photographs, and oral histories.

Our website has been updated and new information has been added.  Our E-Store is open to purchase items online available at the Fisherman’s Village’s Gallery.  Items can also be found on eBay and FB marketplace.

Please check out our E-Store at: https://www.marinadelreyhistoricalsociety.org/society-store/

This is our Membership Renewal and Fundraising request for 2021.  Funding is vitally needed to continue support of our digital preservation projects scanning for our website and to fund operating costs, including re-opening the Gallery safely to the public.  We will need a plexiglass shield on our counter, cleaning materials, and masks will be required for all visitors.  I am hopeful to resume Gallery operations in 2021.

Your donations have been critical in the past, to fund our efforts to bring reality to our preservation goals, to enhance community pride and to increase public awareness of Marina Del Rey.  Please complete the card and return with your check donation in the self-addressed envelope…OR…you may donate online through our website: www.marinadelreyhistoricalsociety.org

Finally, I would like to acknowledge and thank our Board of Directors, Volunteers, and the Marina Del Rey community for your contributions in maintaining our community’s presence.  With my continued and sincerest appreciation for your support…Happy Holidays and wishing you all a Happy New Year…be well and stay safe.
