On Wednesday, July 29th, The Venice Chamber of Commerce Chamber in Action Committee partnered with Marston + Brunt Art Studio and CLARE|MATRIX to offer program residents an uplifting and entertaining virtual art workshop via Zoom. Patrick Marston and Michael Brunt led 10 participants, which included residents at two CLARE|MATRIX facilities and a few Venice Chamber members, through an abstract art workshop using color blocking techniques. The workshop, intended to help raise spirits and brighten pandemic living, left the residents with their own unique pieces of art to be used as decoration in their facilities, to ideally provide a lasting positive impact on the space and its inhabitants.

This event kicked off CLARE|MATRIX’s virtual Inspiration Series which invites skilled volunteers to virtually lead an activity or workshop for residential participants receiving treatment.  To inquire about volunteering to lead a workshop, please contact Jen Maduko at jmaduko@clarematrix.org

From Jen Maduko, Development Director at CLARE | MATRIX:

“For 50 years, CLARE | MATRIX has been a resource for individuals with substance use disorders experiencing homelessness in the Santa Monica & Venice communities. In the wake of a global pandemic, we understand that the communities we serve are at greater risk and have restricted access to our residential treatment programs. The launch of our Inspiration Series will allow volunteers to teach a skill virtually to help reduce the stress experienced by participants during this time.”

CLARE|MATRIX was formed in 2018 upon the merging of two long standing partners in saving lives through recovery, CLARE Foundation and Matrix Institute on Addictions, bringing over 80 combined years of successful experience in providing compassionate and evidence- based treatment, education, research and training services for substance use disorders and behavioral health issues to people and the community. First developed in the 1980’s, the Matrix Model has become a successful treatment approach recognized by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute for Drug Abuse (NIDA), and listed on the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices.  Building on the CLARE Foundation’s founding principle of 12 steps, CLARE | MATRIX offers a continuum of care to transition people from SUD to living vibrant healthy lives.
