Venice Art Crawl
Thursday, May 18th
6:00 - 10:00 pm
Enhance your evening with art, culture and entertainment at the Venice Art Crawl where you can meet artists and merchants. VAC, having coming off their triumphant fundraiser on April 20th, is preparing for the second Art Crawl of the year on Thursday, May 18th from 6:00 - 10:00 pm on Venice Boulevard, from the beach to Oakwood Boulevard. The locals are hoping to make this two-mile stretch into an official Venice Arts District.
The Sunny Bak Studio at 2214 Pacific Avenue, is having a silent auction featuring work of local artists: framed photos; prints; paintings; a skateboard; ceramics by Sandra Zebi; a drum skin donated by drummer Lucky Lehrer of the Circle Jerks—are a few items up for auction. All proceeds will go towards the last VAC of the year, “The Venice Afterburn” that takes place September 22 and 23 near the famed Venice skate park. Also at the C.A.V.E. Gallery, Patrick Iaconis of C.A.V.E. Gallery will be presented with a certificate from 11th District Los Angeles Councilman Mike Bonin by George Francisco ,the president of the Venice Chamber of Commerce, in honor of opening the C.A.V.E. Gallery and for Patrick’s support of art in Venice. At the C.A.V.E. Gallery, 55 N. Venice Boulevard, catch the exhibit “Sixth Extinction,” by British, London based artist Louis Masai who is best known for his engaging "patchwork style" murals of endangered animals. This new series of paintings created for this much anticipated exhibition looks at animal species that are endangered in the United States.
“Sago Plastico,” the experimental work of Miranda Friedman, will be featured at Beyond Baroque, 681 Venice Boulevard. Nearby at the Abbot Kinney Memorial Branch Library, 501 Venice Boulevard, the 2-7 year old students of Ecole Claire Fontaine French School will display their unique artwork. Also The Happening, an interactive art event will be returning. James Berkowitz will curate ARTravenous, a celebration of life, art, culture, poetry, and music at the Canal Club, 2025 Pacific Avenue. EAT ART/Before They Go is an exhibit by artist Barbara Lavery and photographer Debbie Zeitman happening at the sushi restaurant Wabi Venice, 1635 Abbot Kinney Boulevard.
Info booths with the VAC maps will be at the Canal Club and the Abbot Kinney Memorial Library.
The VAC is now accepting submissions for July 20th, the third art crawl of the year. July 1 is the deadline to get your event listed for the map and press releases. Go to www.veniceartcrawl.com to submit your event.
