L.A. Louver Celebrates 50 Years of Art & Innovation in Venice
L.A. Louver has been a cornerstone of the Venice arts community for five decades, championing both Los Angeles-based and international artists. The iconic gallery is marking its 50th anniversary with a special exhibition, "L.A. Louver Celebrates 50 Years," from February 15 – June 14, 2025.
This milestone exhibition combines works from over 50 artists, reflecting the gallery’s journey and its role in establishing Los Angeles as a global art center. Featured artists range from those who shaped L.A. Louver’s early days—such as Max Cole, George Herms, and Edward and Nancy Reddin Kienholz—to international visionaries like David Hockney and Sui Jianguo. The show also spotlights artists deeply embedded in L.A.’s creative fabric, including Tony Berlant, John McCracken, Ed Moses, and Ken Price, alongside contemporary talents Rebecca Campbell, Gajin Fujita, Heather Gwen Martin, and Alison Saar.
A Tribute to L.A. Louver’s Legacy
Beyond an exhibition, this celebration serves as a portrait of L.A. Louver itself—a gallery shaped by the dynamic forces of Venice Beach’s bohemian past, the artists and community who have enriched its programs, and the striking Frederick Fisher-designed building that has housed groundbreaking exhibitions for decades. This retrospective honors the gallery’s evolution and continued influence in the global art world by weaving together key moments from its history.
